James W. Zindel

James W. Zindel, 86, of Decatur, IL, died January 25, 2018.

James was born January 18, 1932 in Moweaqua, IL, the son of Herman and Alice (Lambdin) Zindel. He married Helen Johno on October 20, 1956 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and enjoyed 61 years of marriage with his dear wife. He was Dad to Jeff (Susie) Zindel of Omaha, NE, Lori (Aaron) Rund of Plymouth, MI, Jon (Jennifer) Zindel of Chicago; and Grandpa to Jeff II, Carolynn (Alex), Ellie, Ian, Ava, Lydia and Aidan.
James worked as a Decatur Firefighter and an Arborist operating Zindel’s Tree and Lawn Care. He was a charter member of Our Lady of Lourdes parish and contributed his time and talent to Lourdes generously over his life.The impact from his work at Lourdes, caring for the trees of the area and saving lives as a firefighter will continue to live on.
Surviving are his siblings, Charles Zindel of Chicago, Elizabeth (Herb) Teichman of Eau Claire,MI, Evelyn (Bob) Schmitz of Nashville, TN. Preceding James in death are his parents and two brothers, Ralph and Herman.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, February 3, 2018 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will also be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church 4:30 – 6:30 PM Friday, February 2, 2018.
Inurnment will be held at a later date at Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
Memorials: National Arborist Association, St. Teresa High School or Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.

  1. I worked for Jim at Zindel's Tree and Lawn care right out of college in 1990-91. He was a great teacher of his profession. I learned a lot from Jim, I laid my first paver patio at his home and he was very patient with me. Loved working there and have many fond memories of him. My condolences to his family.
