Mary Catherine Clark

Decatur – Mary Catherine Rottinghaus Clark passed away Friday, April 6, 2018 in her home surrounded by her family.
Born November 13, 1919 in Seneca, Kansas to Joseph and Catherine (Gudenkauf) Rottinghaus, she married Robert F. (Jack) Clark on April 16, 1941 in Dougherty, Iowa.
She is survived by sons, Larry (Carol-deceased) Clark of Peachtree City, GA and Danny (Julie) Clark of Carmel, IN, daughters, Marlene (Jack-deceased) Moran of Decatur, IL, Connie (Terry) Metzger of Naples, FL, Pat (Rick-deceased) Tomlinson of Decatur, IL, Mary Lou (Mark) Walker of Forsyth, IL, Donna Marie (Joseph) of Spring, TX, 17 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. In addition, Mary is survived by one sister, Sr Rosanne Rottinghaus PBVM of Dubuque, IA, three brothers, Ray (Teresa) Rottinghaus of Mason City, IA, Joe (Dee) Rottinghaus of Clear Lake, IA and Jim (Dixie) Rottinghaus of Urbandale, IA and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, one grandson, Anthony Metzger, one daughter-in-law, Carol Rivers Clark, 4 sons-in-law, both parents, and two brothers and three sisters.
Mary’s greatest passion in life was being a good wife, good mother and homemaker. Her home was always open to all of her friends and her children’s friends. Through the years, after her children were in school, she sold Avon and worked at General Electric and Lincoln Manor South in Decatur, Il.
In 1961, upon moving from Iowa to Decatur, Mary was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church until 1972 and St. James Catholic Church from 1972 until 1999. While a member of St. James, she was a Homebound Eucharistic Minister, a member of the Pastoral Council and a member of the Ladies Sodality. She was also active in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus. From 1999 until her death she was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church.
She will be remembered for her great love of family and for always having an open house and an open heart for everyone who came into her life.
Visitation will be Monday, April 9, 2018, from 5 to 7 pm, in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 4:30 pm. Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be 10 am, Tuesday, April 10, 2018, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Burial will take place in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. James Catholic Church, Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church or to a charity of your choice.

    I want to send my prayers and condolences at the death of Mary Catherine. The last time I visited with her was at the funeral of Sr. Mary Anthony. She was a joy to visit with. I am a first cousin on her dad's side. I am a Missionary Benedictine Sisters in Norfolk, NE. My sister-in-law, June Rottinghaus send me the message and obituary of her death.
