Mary Kathrine Hall

Death Date: March 8, 2018

Mary Kathrine Hall, 74, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away and made her transition to Heaven at 10:40 a.m. Thursday, March 8, 2018, at Decatur Memorial Hospital. She was born an only child January 24, 1944, to Leonard and Hilda (Cameron) Jones.

She was a Lakeview High School graduate from the class of 1962. After graduating, she enrolled in the Millikin Schol of Nursing in Decatur and finished in 1965. Then she ended up moving to Fort Wayne, Indiana area, where she worked as a registered nurse, and meeting and marrying her first husband, James Saunders. She would resettle in the city of Evanston, Illinois and remain there for a brief period until her husband’s unexpected death in 1971.

Later in 1971, Mary would return to her hometown of Decatur and remarry Marvin Jean Hall on June 5, 1971. They would remain happily married for almost half a century. In the meantime, she would continue her endeavors as a R.N., and in 1981, would attain a master’s degree in counseling from Sangamon State University. During a career that would span four decades, she worked many places, namely Adolf Meyer Mental health Center of Decatur and McFarland Mental Health Center if Springfield. In between those two places, she worked as a discharge planner at Abraham Lincoln Memorial Hospital of Lincoln and as a overnight nurse at Logan County Corrections.

She is survived by her husband, Marvin Hall of Decatur, Illinois; her children, Michael (Stepheni) Hall and Mychele (James) Boatman also of Decatur; her husband’s previous children, Lisa (Michael) Garner-Smith and Mark Hall also of Decatur, Sundiata Cha-Jua of Champaign, Illinois, and Marva Jean (Larry) Nash and Sherre Coe of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; her two hearts as she called them, Cameron Je’Mar Hall and JaBron Christian Boatman; and several other nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, numerous aunts and uncles and several cousins.

Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mary Hall will be 12 noon Saturday, March 17, 2018, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.

    I can relate to the feeling of loss you are feeling at this time. I know you had a special relationship with your mom, and that no one can take her place in your heart.
