William “Bill” Burns

William “Bill” Burns, Sr., of Decatur, IL died Friday, March 2, 2018 at Decatur Memorial Hospital.

Bill was born July 18, 1939 in Dewitt, IL, the son of Earl and Mary Ellen (Thrasher) Burns. He married Betty Moffett on April 22, 1962 in Decatur, IL.

Bill loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. During his leisure he liked to spend time working in his garage, going to coffee with his buddies and gardening. One of his greatest joys was his red truck.

Surviving are his wife, Betty; children, Jeff Burns of Decatur, William Burns, Jr (Terri) of Decatur, IL, Kevin Brandon of Decatur, Gene Brandon of Carbondale, IL; sister, Betty McKowen of Decatur, IL; grandchildren, Josh Burns, Michael Moretti, Brandon Tully, Ryan Tully, Jessica Tully, Andrew Tully, Holly Burns, Dusty Burns, Chrissy Moretti, Amanda Powell, Amanda Moretti and several great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by two daughters, Kathy Burns-Moretti, Cheryl Burns and great granddaughter, Nevaeh.

Private family service will be held at a later date.

  1. I grew up around Bill and helped work wedding receptions with my mom,(Thelma Dillard). I was always Susie to him. I loved him and followed him eveywhere at the old Swan. I loved Juliann very much, and learned alot from her.

  2. I wonder if Willam had a son on March 6 in 1968 at St. Mary's hospital in Decatur Illinois. If so it was me ,I was adopted when I was a few months old. Anyone have any info please contact me. Willam Leckrone in Peoria Illinois on Facebook

  3. I remember riding to Clinton and Bill gave me a handful of roofing nails and told me if I wanted to put shingles on, I had to learn to flip those nails out…Ride home was much more enjoyable…:)
