June 18, 1931 - April 18, 2022
The matriarch of a prolific family rooted in Central Illinois, Angeline Barr passed away on the morning of April 18 while surrounded by loved ones. She was 90. Mrs. Barr was born in Decatur on June 18, 1931, and spent the entirety of her life in this area. She was the daughter of Rocco and Domenica Romano. She shared a long, full life with her husband Dewey Barr, her high school sweetheart. Angeline has made a tremendous impact as a caring daughter and sister, a devoted wife, and a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She's survived by her daughter Kathy Piotrowicz and son-in-law John Piotrowicz of Evanston, Ill.; daughters Angela Barr-Cornell of Orlando, Fla. and Maria Barr of Decatur; her son David Barr of Bradenton, Fla.; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, her son-in-law, Gregory Scott Cornell, and her grandson, Michael Weiss. A renowned gourmet cook of Italian, family-style fare, Angeline's meals have delighted and nourished several generations of loved ones. Angeline was the quintessential selfless person. She spent the majority of her time tending to the needs of her family, providing care and lending endless amounts of advice, guidance, compassion, and empathy. She was a connoisseur of antiques. Her collection provided apt decoration for the restored barn where she and her husband spent most of their retirement years. She could most often be found on the phone talking to family spread from California to Florida and several locales in between. She was happiest when surrounded by family in her home. Angeline and Dewey traveled often to visit their extensive family and were mainstays at their grandchildren and great-grandchildren's sports and artistic endeavors. Visitation for Angeline will begin at 3:00pm on Saturday, May 14 at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service at 4:00pm. The service will be livestreamed at www.funeralvue.com/login/event#72579. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to hospice—the compassionate organization was a godsend to the family in her final months—or to St. Patrick's School or St. Teresa High School where her children attended.
