When I attended my first EIU class toward my Master's degree, I sat beside Colleen. Having taught/coached in Lovington for several years, I knew several of her family members and recognized her "as one of the Reedy girls". She was finishing her Principal certification as I was only beginning. She encouraged me through that class and used her English knowledge to show me how to "clean-up", polish and improve my papers. (I had not written a paper for nearly 20 years.) Colleen's patience and encouragement helped me through that class. Whenever our paths crossed in the following years, we enjoyed laughing about that class experience.As I followed her Prin/Supt career, I had confidence in her leadership since I had seen her kind spirit. Excellence was always the goal for her students and schools…but her love of fun and family were also priorities. May God bless you all!Janet Cox

Hi Jenny and Paul. This is Peggy Ropiequet. Weather and other life details have kept me away from your Mother's visitation and funeral. I regret it so. I wanted tolay my eyes on you and tell you what a dear friend your mother was to me. Even though we had not seen each other often since you all left Mattoon, I will always remember living close to you on Prairie and sharing the joys and challenges of raising small children. Of course we shared our card club and teaching also but it is those early years that I treasure most. She lifted me up and made me laugh more than a few times. Plus, we were both farm girls from big families so we had so much in common. I am so sorry that you have lost her but know after the suffering that this is a relief also. Please know that Dave, Laura, Curt, and I all send our sympathy and love to you and your families.I have some money to donate to the scholarship fund from the card club so l will find out an address and get it to the right place. I was Coleen's administrative assistant at L-P High School and I so enjoyed the years we spent working together. We were not only work associates but became instant friends. We shared many laughs, a few cries and our time together was much too short. I can recall many happy memories of a sweet, funny, special lady. To the entire family, I am so sorry for your loss. Colleen was a good friend and a great mother! I have so many memories(most included Paul and his antics, :)) but the one I want to share is when my son Brandon entered JR High you were his principal. I gave you some cash to keep in case he ever forgot his lunch money. That was a huge fear of mine…that he would not have $ for his lunch. It was a huge comfort to me that you were watching over him when I was not around. I believe he never needed to use it the 2 years he was there, but I knew it and you were there if he needed you. We ended it up being neighbors for awhile and I loved knowing you were across the street!! You will be missed.Rest in the loving arms of God my dear friend.Terry Stretch
