A. Marie Potrafka's Obituary
Decatur-A. Marie Potrafka, 93, of Decatur, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at Hickory Point Christian Village in Forsyth.
Marie was born April 29, 1921 in Decatur, the daughter of Rocco and Domenica (Brienza) Romano. She graduated from Decatur High School and owned and operated Romano Pizzeria for over twenty-four years. Marie was a member of Saints James and Patrick Parish. She loved cooking and baking cookies. She enjoyed feeding the neighborhood. Marie was very thoughtful and always remembered everyone in her family’s birthday, anniversary, holiday, and special occasion. She sent a countless number of cards throughout her life. Marie married Robert L. “Bob” Potrafka November 28, 1948. He preceded her in death in August of 1966.
Marie leaves behind her brothers F. Paul Romano, Benny Romano and wife Betty, and Jim Romano and wife Barbara all of Decatur, sisters Frances Richison of Austin, Texas and Angeline Barr and husband Dewey of Forsyth, and many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, great-great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends.
Marie was reunited in Heaven with her parents, husband, brothers little Paul, Antonio, and Dominic Romano, and sisters Mary Frank and Rose Oyler.
Marie’s family would like to give a special thanks to the nurses and staff at Hickory Point Christian Village and to all of those who cared for her.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Marie’s life will be 10 a.m. Saturday, October 25, 2014 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, 407 E. Eldorado St. Decatur, with Rev. John Burnette, Celebrant. Visitation will be for one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Rose Romano Oyler Memorial Scholarship Fund through the Community Foundation.
