Akai Correll Reed, 32, of Indianapolis, IN departed this life on Thursday, August 23, 2018 at 4:45 AM in Indianapolis, IN.
Akai was born on Friday, July 25, 1986 in Decatur, IL, the son of David A. Reed Sr. and Rosie Lee Hammond.
He was a skilled barber and enjoyed cutting hair. He accepted Christ at a young age and as he got older, became interested in the Muslim faith. Akai will always be remembered for his smile that would brighten any room.
He was a natural ladies man. He had an undeniable charm and swag. Anytime Akai was around, the vibe in the atmosphere was way different. Most of all, he had an amazing heart. Anyone that he allowed close to him, he considered them not just as a friend but as family.
Akai leaves to cherish his loving memories, his father, David Reed Sr; siblings, Shaquetta (Earnanduz) Booker of Decatur, IL, David Reed Jr. of Indianapolis, IN; children, Akaiyah Minor-Reed, Takiyah Reed, Akai Pitman, Sha’Kyra Reed, Da’Kyla Reed , all of Indianapolis, IN. Indiah Cooper of Decatur, IL, Makyre Jones of Las Vegas, NV; aunts, Phyllis Amos, Janice (John) Cliff and Reshawon Neal; uncles, Albert (Gretchen) Amos, Curtis (Melissa) Mcginnis, Henry (Taiwana) Amos and Michael Amos; cousin and sister, Batoshia (Matthew) Woods; special cousins, Shamar and Zanaria Hunt; special aunt, Susie Hunt; special friend, Dominique Bradshaw and Toya Minor; special extended family, Mary Booker, Laschelle (Vernon) Rule, Yucortus Booker and Trenika (Donald) Cross all of Decatur, IL and a host of other aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Akai was preceded in death by his mother, Rosie Hammond; grandmother, Bessie Man; uncle, Henry Huff and daughter, Angelea Reed.
A funeral service to celebrate Akai’s life be held on Friday, August 31, 2018 at Christ Tabernacle Church, 401 W. Prairie Avenue, Decatur, IL at 12 pm with a visitation two hours prior, beginning at 10 am.
