Alfred Fletcher "AJ" Hawkins' Obituary
Alfred Fletcher Hawkins Jr., (46) of Decatur, Illinois passed into eternity on Tuesday, July 16, 2013 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Home going services to celebrate AJ's life will be 12 noon Tuesday, July 23, 2013 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 530 W. Mound Rd. Decatur, with Rev. Dr. C.D. Stuart officiating. Visitation, one hour prior to service and interment with full military honors at Camp Butler in Springfield, Ill.
AJ was born August 25, 1966 in Carbondale, Illinois to Alfred and Helen Marie Hawkins. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as an Advanced Weapons technologist and F-14 Jet Fighters Weapon Systems Instructor. He was a recipient of several medals including the Bronze star, National Defense Service Medal, and Pistol Marksman. Ribbons for sea deployment aboard the U.S.S. Nimitz and tours of duty in Southwest Asia were also awarded. His love for jets and computer technology was apparent to all who knew him. Electronic equipment repair was a passionate hobby that turned into a business, even after his illness.
He leaves to cherish his loving memory; his mother: Helen Hawkins of Memphis, TN, his father: Alfred F. (Jeanette) Hawkins Sr., brothers: Anthony (Antonia) Hawkins, of Decatur, IL, Alexander Hawkins, Memphis, TN, sister: Crystal (Ricky) Micou of Suffolk, VA, step-sisters: Sharon(James) Fallon of Gilbert, AZ, Toni (Todd) Austin, Paradise Valley, AZ, First Sergeant Christie Garmon, Raeford, NC and Angela (Kevin) McClelland of Gilbert, AZ, uncles: Billy Hawkins of Decatur, Il., Isaac Jones, Mozell Jones, Willie B. Jones, all of Los Angeles, CA, Joseph Jones of Cape Girardeau, MO, aunts: Linda Madkin of Olive Branch, MS, Lottie Walker of Little Rock, AR, Geneva (Johnston) Hughes of Des Moines, IA, and a host of nephews, nieces, and cousins.
The family would like to thank Dr. Velasco and the staff of Cancer Care Specialists of Decatur Illinois for their services, especially the last eight years. We are also grateful to Lincoln Rehabilitation Center for AJ's care.
