Alfred W. Lipka's Obituary
Alfred W. Lipka, 81, of Lawton Oklahoma, formerly of Decatur, died on Monday, April 3, 2006, at a Lawton Oklahoma living center.
Funeral services celebrating his life will be 10 a.m., Saturday, April 8, 2006, at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Decatur, IL, Rev. Russell Weise officiating. Visitation will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be in North Fork Cemetery with Military Rites conducted by the Macon County Honor Guard. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial contributions may be made to St. John's Lutheran Church Organ Fund and/or Landscaping Fund.
Alfred was born on July 9, 1924, to Frederick and Wilhalmina Barr Lipka. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII in the Pacific. On his return from the war he married Helen Flowers on December 24, 1948, in Washington, IN. Alfred had a career of 40 years with the L. E. Myers Electrical Construction Company and retired in 1986 as the Decatur District Field Superintendent. He played an instrumental role in constructing key high voltage power lines and substation projects in Central Illinois. Mr. Lipka was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, IBEW Local 51 and the Decatur American Legion, Moose Lodge, and VFW.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, daughter and son-in-law Jean and Frank Brown, Lawton, OK; sons and daughter-in-laws Allan and Sara, Lincoln, NB; Jim and Anna Lee, Katy, TX; and Michael, Urbana, IL. Three sisters: Anna Smith, South Bend, IN; Ruth Hurst and Margaret Henderson, Decatur, IL; seven grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters: Emma Kunz, Mildred Warnick, and Martha Parks; brothers: William, Henry, Ernest, and Walter.
