Alfred Edgar Muex's Obituary
Alfred Edgar Muex, 70, of Decatur, passed away quietly in Decatur Memorial Hospital on Saturday, May 23, 2009, at 12:15am, surrounded by his family.
Alfred was born on March 21, 1939, in Brownsville, Tennessee, son of Alfred Edgar, Sr., and Murline Currie Muex. He married Hazel Taylor Muex August 3, 1959.
He is survived by his wife, Hazel Taylor Muex; sons, Anthony E. Muex, of Decatur; Adrian E. Muex, of Springfield; daughters, Gwen L. Muex; Quinn L. Muex Thomas, both of Decatur; sisters, Willa Fox and Betty Peterson Lester, both of Decatur; grandchildren, Teanna Muex, Trena Muex, Tena Muex, and Adrian PJ Muex, of Springfield; and three great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his nephews, Billy Lee; Kenny Lee; Fred Lee; Cornell Cook; Steve Fox; Timothy Fox; Lester Patterson, Jr.; Raymond Patterson; Gary Muex; and Doug Patterson; nieces, Shirley Muex Graves and Kathy Muex; mother-in-law, Janette Covington Taylor, of Decatur; brother-in-law, Hillard Taylor Brenda, of Redford, MI; Ricky Taylor Marguerite; Ronnie Taylor; Jimmy Taylor Rose; sister-in-laws, Nannie Taylor Goforth; Bobbie Taylor Thomas; Juanita Taylor, Janice Taylor, all of Decatur; and Virgie Taylor Banks Robert, of Springfield; cousin and brother, Thomas Muex, of Milwaukee, WI; cousin and sister, Audrey Muex Blue, of Brownsville, TN. He leaves to cherish a host of more nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two nephews.
After attending High School in Brownsville, TN, he moved to Decatur in 1955. He was employed by CBQ Founding/Wagner’s Casting Intermet for 37 years. He retired in 1997 as Supervisor and Quality Control. He also worked for SAIL, Inc after he retired.
He was a member of Trinity CME Church for three years. He then joined the Church of the Living God Pillar Ground of the Church Temple No. 1 in 1959. He later joined the Church of Jesus Christ the Living God in 2006. He served faithfully as a deacon, chairman of the trustee board, choir president, brotherhood chorus, and was active in many other capacities in the church during his 50 year membership there. He was also a member and lead singer for the Spiritual Jubilee quartet for a number of years. He loved traditional and jubilee gospel music. His hobbies were bowling and talking with his CB buddies. His care and compassion for people will leave a mark in the hearts of every life he touched.
Homegoing service will be 12:00 noon, Saturday, in the Community Temple COGIC, 759 S. Jackson, Decatur. Visitation will be one hour prior. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.
