Ann Hogan's Obituary
Ann Bernadine Hogan, 100, of Decatur formerly of Mt. Zion passed away on Tuesday, December 24, 2013 in Imboden Creek Living Center.
Ann was the youngest of 4 sisters and also had 4 brothers. She was born on October 23, 1913 in Arthur the daughter of John and Margaret (Conley) Conlin. Her father farmed and had recruited the help of her brothers to manage it. Her mother died at the age of 44 when Ann was 11 years old. Even though the country was not in full depression at that point, her family was affected deeply by this loss. Her family virtually lost everything during the depression, by the thinnest of margins; they managed to keep their home, recovering when World War II started. She attended Sacred Heart Academy in Springfield graduating in 1931. Her deep religious faith was well served by her membership at Holy Family Catholic Church and as a former member of Our Lady of the Holy Spirit Parish where she was a member of the alter and rosary society. She was also a member of the Macon County Home Bureau.
She married Robert Hogan on April 8, 1953 in Arcola. He preceded her in death on April 22, 2010.
Ann was known for her meticulous home, the details of meal making, and food preservation. She had a loving attention to numerous nieces and nephews.
Evidence to her very specific daily activities, vacations, and celebrations for years on end are found in journals and calendars that have traveled with her to each residence. The memories were too precious to part with. They were written in a very distinct flowing cursive handwriting. It was the same as many others of her generation. It was a practiced penmanship that had a romantic flow to it.
Surviving are her son, John Hogan (Janet M. ) of Dalton City; three grandchildren: Craig Hogan of Evansville, IN; Lynn Hogan of St. Louis, MO; Alan Hogan of Dalton City; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers Edwin Conlin, Michael Conlin, Robert Conlin, and Joseph Conlin, and three sisters, Marie Randolph, Alice Wolters, and Lucille Beals.
The family would like to thank the staff at Imboden Creek Gardens and Living Center for all their care and acts of kindness.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 AM Saturday, December 28, 2013 in Holy Family Catholic Church with Rev. Joe Molloy as Celebrant. Visitation will be 9-11 AM Saturday in the church. Burial will be in South Macon Township Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to Holy Family Catholic Church.
