Anne E. McElroy's Obituary
Decatur – Anne E. McElroy, 50, of Decatur, passed away Thursday, February 28, 2013 in her home.
Anne was born July 4, 1962 in Decatur, the daughter of Richard and Elizabeth Anne 'Betty' (Kleckner) McEloy. She was a member Ss. James & Patrick Catholic Church.
Anne began her career with the State of Illinois as the Administrative Assistant to the late Senator Penny Severns. Anne subsequently entered the hotel industry working for Tharaldson Enterprises as the Director of Regional Sales and oversaw the sales and marketing efforts of many hotels throughout the country. In 2003, she returned to the State of Illinois as the Deputy Director of Personnel and rounded out her career as the Chief of Labor relations for the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Surviving are her children: Colleen Alexandra Athey and Richard Hayden Athey of Decatur; sister, Ellen McElroy-Kenworth of Springfield; brothers: Michael (Lynn) McElroy, Patrick (Barbara) McElroy, and Timothy (Leslie) McElroy of Decatur; nieces and nephews: Hilary and Colin Runion, Byrnes Kenworth, Conor and Brennan McElroy, Matthew McElroy, and Dixie McElroy; special cousin, Mary Adams of Aurora; ex-husband, Joseph Athey of Decatur; many relatives, close friends, and co-workers.
Anne was preceded in death by her parents.
Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate Anne's life will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 4, 2013, in St. Patrick Catholic Church; Rev. John Burnette Celebrant. Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., Sunday, March 3, 2013 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Burial will be in Boiling Springs Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to: Ss. James & Patrick Catholic School, Ss. James & Patrick Catholic Church or St. Teresa High School.
