Annie Moss Williams' Obituary
Annie Moss Williams, Decatur II, departed this life Thursday, December 6, 2012 at Fairhaven’s Christian Home.
She was born November 23, 1928 in Dyersburg TN to Joise Bolden and Johnnie Williams. She moved to Decatur at a very young age to be raised by her grandmother. She attended Stephen Decatur High School and moved to Flint MI in her early twenties. She returned in 1953 where she remained until her passing.
Annie was employed by Peacock Cleaners for many years. She worked for Marvel-Shebler/Tillotson Division, a Borg-Warner Corp from 1972 until the closing of the manufacturing plant in 1981. She retired from the State of Illinois, Treasury Department, in Springfield.
She was very active in the community. She was a charter member of the Centurion Club, a member of the NAACP and the first women of color to be elected to the Macon County Board, where she served from 11/82 until 11/90.
She was a founding member of The Church of the Living God P.G.T. #1 under the leadership of Bishop H. Dickerson. She later was a charter member of The Church of Jesus Christ the Living God. She was an active member of the usher board in both churches. When her health started to fail, she had to give up her love of ushering.
She leaves to mourn: daughter, Patricia (Warren Eugene) Robinson, Decatur; sons, Leondis Williams of Decatur; and Zegory Williams of Bloomington, IL; grandchildren, Brandy Hines of Decatur; Teric (TJ) Hines of Appleton, WS; Andreas (Ashley) Williams and Deirdre Williams of Wilmington, NC; great 'grandchildren, Tyler Hines, Brylan Woods, Raegan and Owen Williams; nieces, Mary Graham and Effie Gully; nephew, Michael Oliver; a very special brother-in-law, William F. Oliver; and a host of family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her mother, father, an infant son and her sister, Effie Oliver.
The family would like to thank the Nurses and staff members at Fairhaven’s Christian Home for all the love and care given to Annie. You really made her feel special.
Homegoing services will be 11 AM Friday, December 14, 2012 in The Church of Jesus Christ the Living God, 4240 E. William St RD, Decatur, IL 62526 Pastor Sam R. Owens officiating. Visitation will be 10 -11 AM Friday in the church. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park.
