Annie D. Woods' Obituary
Annie D. (Kelly) Woods, 93, of Decatur, Illinois, passed away January 7, 2024, in her home.
Annie was born in Kewanee, Mississippi, on March 12, 1930, the daughter of Fessor Wright Kelly and Minnie (Lofton) Kelly. She married Charlie Woods on April 11, 1952. She worked for many years as a custodian at Caterpillar and retired in 1990. She was a faithful, long-time member of Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church. She loved her church and her church family. She will long be remembered for her exquisite taste in beautiful and unique hats. In her spare time, she enjoyed shopping, baking, tending her plants, and Gospel music. She loved her family and cherished the time she spent with them. Her grandchildren were dear to her, and she loved watching them grow.
Annie is survived by her children Shawn “Michelle” Woods, DeeAnn Woods, and Tresa Woods, all of Decatur; sisters Verda Kelly-Jack of Meridian, Mississippi and Florine Carlisle of Kellyton, Alabama; brothers Jimmy Kelly and Douglas Kelly, both of Meridian, Mississippi, Eddie (Nancy) Kelly, Bishop D.C. Carlisle, of Lakewood, New Jersey; sister-in-law Mary Kelly of Springfield, Illinois; grandson Darius Woods; great-grandchildren Amiya Woods and Riley White; special grandson Jeff (Cortney) Wilson; special grandson Charles Woods; special granddaughter Rochelle Perkins and her mother Gloria Maddox; a host of nieces, nephews, and grandchildren by marriage; and special friends Martha Carlton, Annie Brady, Lily P. Davis, Alberta Bond, and Sherley Tyus. She was preceded in death by her husband Charlie Woods, her parents, and brothers Homer Kelly, Wright “Sonny” Kelly, Felix Kelly, and B.C. Carlisle.
Annie’s family would like to extend special thanks to Talisa Adams, her first caregiver when her health began to decline, and to Phyllis Ann Amos, whose dedicated and caring service was a huge help to Annie and the family.
Funeral services for Annie will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church in Decatur. Visitation will be from 11am to 12pm. Homegoing Service will begin at 12pm. Burial in Greenwood Cemetery will follow the service. Memorials may be directed to Greater Northside Missionary Baptist Church.
