Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2005 in Graceland Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
Arden was born in Decatur on October 3, 1921, the son of Paul Arden and Hazel Houston Moomey Gaddis. He enlisted in the Army in July of 1941 and during WWII he was an artillery lieutenant in the 185th F.A. Bn. of the 34th Infantry Division in North Africa and Italy. Arden was a graduate of Decatur Senior High School in 1939, the University of Illinois with a B.S. in engineering-physics in 1949; and of the University of Michigan with an M.S. in engineering mathematics in 1950. He worked in the computer industry in Philadelphia with his first job in 1950 with Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corp. on their very first Univac. As a computer development engineer for another corporation, he reported suspected criminal activities to the F.B.I.; and later, because of the F.B.I.'s Operation Illwind, the corporation was forced to sell its defense-electronics division.
Arden is survived by cousins and was preceded in death by his parents.
