Audra Joan Rutherford's Obituary
Audra Joan Rutherford, 73, Decatur, died on August 5, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
Joan was born on February 16, 1938 in Moweaqua, IL, the third daughter of Louie and Erma Reatherford.
She graduated from Decatur High School Class of 1956. Joan married Thomas “Big Tom” Rutherford on August 16, 1956. Joan was involved in many activities during her life including Cub Scout Den Mother, Southeast School PTA President, and involved with many fundraisers, She was active at First Lutheran Church teaching Sunday School, Vacation Bible School Director, church choir, and Lay Reader.
Joan worked in various vocations but spent most of her career as a Deli Manager at Jewel Food Stores and Big Tom’s Produce. She loved working with the public. She retired to care for many of her grandchildren and children of family friends. We will all remember her as “Grandma Joan”.
She was an Auxiliary member of American Legion Post 105 where she enjoyed many years of volunteering to raise funds for the Post.
She is survived by her husband Thomas F. Rutherford Sr., Children: Thomas F. Rutherford Jr. Theresa, Timothy F. Rutherford of Decatur, Joseph L. Rutherford Cindy of Rome, NY, and Susan York Brian also of Decatur.
She leaves 11 Grandchildren: Thomas, Jennifer, Sarah, Jason, Justin, Paul, Matt, Sasha, Whitney, Kelsey, and Amanda. Also 7 Great Grandchildren: Andrew, Jocelynn, Matthew, Elisha, Wyatt, Nikolas, and Taylor.
Also surviving is her Sister Bonnie Cothern of Pana, IL, and Brother-in-Law Lynn Baker of Decatur. Joan also leaves many special nephews, nieces, cousins and her beloved dog Ruby.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, Sister Kay Brunk Ray, and Great Grand Son Shawn Rutherford.
Services celebrating her life will be at First Lutheran Church, 250 W. Decatur St, Decatur, IL, on Tuesday, August 9, 2011; Pastor Mike Hoy will be officiating. Visitation will precede the service at 9am at the church. Private burial at Camp Butler National Cemetery will follow at 12pm. Memorials: First Lutheran Church or the family.
