Barbara Jane Alexander's Obituary
Barbara Jane Alexander, 82, of Decatur, passed away at 1:15 p.m., Wednesday, November 10, 2010 in her home.
She was born April 24, 1928, in Decatur, the daughter of Edmond and Chalice Ground Bresnan. A member of Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church, Barb enjoyed spending time creating gifts for family and friends on her knitting machine and embroidery machine. She worked at McGuire, Yuhas, Huffman & Buckley, Taylor Pharmaceutical, A & M Auto Supply and Eisner’s. She married Elmer R. Alexander on June 15, 1972. He preceded her in death in 1975.
Surviving are her children: Diane Bruce Gifford, Jim Michelle Smith and Eileen Milligan of Decatur, Pam Kirk Zimmerman of Bloomington and Larry Alexander of Bolingbrook; sisters: Virginia Grant of Florida, Margaret Craycroft of Bloomington, Grace Bresnan and Alice Sartori of St. Louis; 16 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Barbara was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Fran Riley; brothers: Paul and Robert Bresnan and sister, Jackie Butcher.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. with a vigil prayer service at 4:30 p.m. Friday, November 12, 2010 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Saturday, November 13, 2010 in Our Lady Of Lourdes Catholic Church with burial to follow in St. Isidore Cemetery, Bethany. Memorials: Cancer Care Specialists Of Central Illinois or Relay For Life.
The family would like to thank St. John’s Hospice and Alpha-Care Health Professionals for their loving care given to their mother over these last days. They would also like to extend a very special thank you to her grandson Rich Riley for his dedicated devotion, relentless 24 hour care, thoughtfulness and ability to make her smile as he cared for her in her final weeks.
