Barbara May Britton's Obituary
Mrs. Barbara May Ross Britton, 85, of Decatur passed away Sunday, October 9, 2005 at 10 am in Fairhaven Christian Home where she had been a resident for the past four years.
The funeral services celebrating her life will be 10:30 am Wednesday October 12, 2005 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, where Pastor Russell Weiss will officiate. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6-8 pm in the funeral home. Burial will be at 1 pm Wednesday in Pleasant Grove Cemetery in rural Beecher City, IL. Barbara was born on December 21, 1919 in Fayette County, IL, the daughter of Ida May Tipsword and Robert C. Ross. Barbara was a faithful member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. She was employed most of her life at Osgood’s and Eldorado Garment Factory’s and a member of Garment Worker’s Union ILGU
Barbara married Donald Tipswood on October 31, 1939. She felt honored to be a part of Donald’s service in the U.S. Army during World War II. While they were stationed in occupied Japan they had the opportunity to adopt their only child, Patricia Gurley. She has always been a bright spot in Barb’s life.
On February 18, 1969 Barbara married Leland L. Britton. He has remained her constant loving husband throughout their life at home and during her stay at Fairhaven’s.
Barb is survived by her husband, daughter, Patricia and husband David Gurley and grandsons; Robert and Darrin Fickes all of Springfield; sisters, Gladys Garrett of Decatur, Bertha and Ben Denke of Rapid City, SD; brothers, Byron and Dixie Ross, Harold and Beulah Ross all of Beecher City, IL.
Barb was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Donald and Robert Ross.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Fairhavens for the wonderful care and kindness they have shown Barbara and Leland. She truly felt it was her home.
