Barbara Morey Shade's Obituary
Barbara Morey Shade, 89, died on November 21, 2009 in her home.
Mrs. Shade was born October 4, 1920 in Decatur, IL. to Henry Hiram Morey and Helen Devlin Morey. She attended Decatur Public Schools and graduated from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 1941 where she was a member of Pi Beta Phi Sorority.
On December, 22, 1945, Mrs. Shade married William Pendleton Shade II. They were blessed with four children: William Pendleton Shade III, married to Susan Hoppe; Thomas Michael Shade married to Jane Bush; Sarah Milligan Peterson, married to Dirk Peterson first husband, Craig Milligan, deceased; Jeffrey Lewis Shade married to Molly Sills, all of whom reside in Decatur. She leaves ten grandchildren: William Pendleton Shade IVDawn, Tucker Robert Shade Courtney, Parker Hoppe Shade, Jonathan Thomas Shade Nori Yokozuka, Jason Michael Shade, Christopher Robert Shade Kristi, Todd Devlin Milligan, Courtney Barbara Milligan, Wesley Prescott Shade, and Lauren Elizabeth Shade. She leaves five great grandchildren, Halle Renee and William Pendleton Shade V, Jakson Campbell and Macon Taylor Shade, and Beckett Kazu Shade. She is also survived by her sisters'in-law, Dorothy Morey and Eve Shade, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her dear husband in 2006 and her brother, Walter Thomas Morey, in 2009.
Mrs. Shade was a member of the Girl’s Welfare Home Board, now known as Webster Cantrell Hall, Junior Welfare, active in St. John’s Church Altar Guild, and served on several committees of the Symphony Guild of Decatur. She was a current member of PEO Chapter BW, and longtime member of the Country Club of Decatur and the Decatur Club.
She thoroughly enjoyed being with her family and friends and treasured every holiday gathering, as well as following the activities of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was an avid bridge player and loved traveling with her husband and friends. She was a very loving mother and a good friend to many. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 130 West Eldorado Street, Decatur, on December 5, 2009 at 2:00 pm. There will be no visitation. Private inurnment services will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. John’s Episcopal Church.
