Barbara Ann Strayhorn's Obituary
Decatur-Barbara Ann Strayhorn, 48, of Decatur passed away on Saturday, September 17, 2011 with her family by her side in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Barbara was born on March 25, 1963 in Dyersburg, TN the daughter of L.B. and Mary Helen Ware Strayhorn Sr. Barbara gave her life to Christ as a member of Lebanon Missionary Baptist Church under the direction of Rev. Marshall Hughes. She enjoyed working out, watching movies, Loving people and doing things for anybody she could. She had a great passion for her family, friends, most of all her kids and grandchildren. She liked shopping and eating Chinese food.
She leaves to cherish fond memoires her mother, Mary Helen Strayhorn; sons, Antonio “TOJO” McElrath Leah; Steven Strayhorn Ashley;like a son, Demario Latson; daughters, Lakiara Latson and Taelor Latson; like a daughter, Ilia McGee, brothers, R. Lee Strayhorn Jennifer, James Strayhorn, L.B. Strayhorn Jr., Michael Strayhorn, Timothy Strayhorn; sisters, Mary McLin, Ethel Perdue, Helen Moses, and Rita Harper JR grandchildren, Antonia McElrath, Antonio Jr., Jaylen Strayhorn, Jaleah Strayhorn, Jayshaun Strayhorn, Tishawn Clemmon, K.J. Timmons and Joe Fox Jr.; newborn grandchild Angelo McElrath; special friends, Ronda Young, Sherese Kidd, Candice Baltimore; soul sisters, Carol Buford, Julia Brassell, Tee Mann, Teresa Owens; special brother-in-law, Jr. Harper, special in-laws, Jerry Latson and Eddie Young Sr.; and a grand amount of nieces, nephews, friends, and co-workers.
She was preceded in death by L.B. Strayhorn Sr., Sadie B. Edwards and Ralph Latson.
The family would like to thank the 5th floor Cardiovascular Unit, all Doctors, Nurses at DMH and CICS Cleaning Services and co-workers at Tate and Lyle.
Homegoing services will be 12 Noon Friday, September 23, 2011 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home with Rev. Marshall Hughes officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to service in the funeral home. Burial will be in Graceland cemetery and conclude with the “Flight Home” Ceremony.
