Barbara Joan Tschappat, 84, of Sullivan formerly of Decatur and of Aledo passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2014 in Mason Point, Sullivan, IL.
Barbara was born on January 29, 1930 in New Boston Township, IL the daughter of Fred and Mable (Sloan) Beard. She was retired from J.C. Penny and was a member of Central United Methodist Church. She volunteered at Head Start and the Good Samaritan Inn in Decatur. She enjoyed reading including history and WWII. She was an avid garage sale enthusiast. She loved traveling and shopping for her grandchildren.
Surviving are her children, Laurel Molgaard (Ronald) of Elizabethtown, KY; Ellen Green of Decatur; Andrew Tschappat (Christina) of La Porte, TX; Carol Diener (Don) of Humboldt; sisters, Mildred Harmsen (Lloyd) of Dewitt, IA; Martha Wenzel (Lynn) of Monticello; twin sister, Betty Swanson (Neil) of Milan; brother Fred Beard of Aledo; 11 grandchildren, and 4 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one granddaughter, sisters, Katherine Oliver and Verna Belle Dugan.
Graveside service will be 11 AM Saturday, September 6, 2014 in Aledo Cemetery in Aledo, IL. Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army.
