Beatrice Tolliver King's Obituary
Beatrice Tolliver King, 96, of Decatur, passed away Friday, April 12, 2013 at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, IL.
Beatrice was born on January 6, 1917 in Osceola, AK, the daughter of Ike and Louise (Davenport) Tolliver. She married Eugene King on June 24, 1944 in Decatur, IL; he preceded her in death in 1962.
Beatrice was a member of the Church of the Living God, C.W.F.F. for nearly 60 years where she was a member of the Senior Choir, the Women's Work and was responsible for the seasonal changing of the sacrament cloths. Previously she served as president of the Women's Work and as a member of the Gospel Chorus. In 2007, Beatrice was recognized as One of the Fifty Most Influential African American Women of Decatur.
Beatrice leaves behind her sons, Lawrence (Julie) Whitfield of Ham Lake, MN; Ernest Whitfield; Eugene (Mary Lou) King of Decatur IL; Nathaniel (Rosemary) King of Old Hickory, TN; William (Denise) King of Maroa, IL; daughters, Bernice Lewis of Decatur, IL; Helen King-Fonville of Decatur, IL; sister, Lu Henri Davis-Johnson of Peoria, IL; her first grand child Anita Louise Brown and 19 more grand children, 41 great grand children, and 8 great-great grand children.
She is also preceded in death by her parents, Ike and Louise Tolliver; son Grant King; daughter, Mercedes Watson; sisters, Helen Hamilton, Cleo Taylor, Mildred Barnes and Jessie Lee Tucker; and her brother, Ike Tolliver.
Home going services to celebrate the life of Beatrice King will be at Noon on Saturday, April 20, 2013, at the Church of the Living God, C.W.F.F. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 2013 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Burial will be at Macon County Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Beatrice King may be directed to the Children's Miracle Network.
