Bernadine "Bernie" R Johnson's Obituary
Bernadine “Bernie” R. Johnson, beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and friend, age 87, of Decatur, entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, in Heartland Manor Care.
Bernie was born May 14, 1928, to James and Edith Seaberg. She attended St. Thomas Grade School and graduated from Decatur High. She married Jim Johnson. They had five sons. They were later divorced. Bernie worked as a caseworker for the Illinois Department of Public Aid.
Bernie is survived by 3 sons: Chris, Greg and Tom. She is also survived by her grandsons: Eric Johnson, Phillip Johnson, Alex Johnson, Gregory Leland, Aaron Leland, Joshua Morenz, Ben Johnson and Brandon Barker. She is also survived by granddaughters Megan and Kirsten and by great-grandsons, nieces, nephews and friends.
Bernie was preceded in death by her father, James; her mother, Edith; her son, Mike; and her son, Jeff.
Bernie’s sweet, gentle and compassionate spirit will be missed by all those who loved her.
Visitation will be Friday, July 24 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Decatur; Rev. Richard Weltin, celebrant. Burial will follow in Mt. Zion Township Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Thomas Church and to Oasis Day Center.
