Bernadine A. Speasl's Obituary
Bernadine A. Speasl, 89, of Decatur, formerly of Harristown, passed away at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday February 10, 2009 at Fair Havens Christian Home.
Bernadine was born August 13, 1919 in Mt. Vernon, IL, a daughter of Bernard and Ida Bollheimer. She married Joseph A. Speasl in Decatur at St. Patrick’s Church on July 8, 1944.
Bernadine graduated from Stephen Decatur High School in Decatur. During her life Bernadine was employed at Ryan Aircraft in San Diego Ca., Montgomery Wards in downtown Decatur, Speasl Brothers Shell in Harristown, and retired from Niantic Harristown School District in 1985.
Bernie was a member of Saints James & Patrick Catholic Church and attended St. Patrick’s church for many years. She was very active member in many area organizations, among those were: Kiwanianne Club of Decatur, Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary, Pathways to Independence, Special Olympics, Retired Senior Volunteers, VFW and American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, UAW 751 retirees, Cat Retirees Club, UCT, Illinois Council for Senior Citizens, Dove, Macon County Historical Society, Harristown Economic Development Committee and Harristown Library Board.
Bernadine is survived by three sons: Joseph Speasl Jr. and wife Sherry of Concord, OH, Jerry Speasl and wife Zona of Las Vegas, NV, and Joel Speasl and wife Pat of Mattoon IL; daughter, Joy Speasl of Grosse Ile, MI. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10 to 11:15 am followed by Mass of Christian Burial Friday, February 13, 2009 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, 407 East Eldorado Street, Decatur IL. Burial will follow in the Harristown Cemetery. Memorials gifts in her honor may be made to Easter Seals, St. Patrick’s Church or donor’s choice.
Bernadine was preceded in death by her parents Bernard and Ida Bollheimer, one brother Raymond Bollheimer and husband Joseph who passed in 1998.
Bernie’s family sincerely thanks Dr. Khan and the wonderful staff at Fair Havens Christian Home for their warm friendship and caring of our Mother. They would also like to express the sincerest thanks to the many neighbors, friends and relatives who looked in on Mom, visited and gave a caring helping hand in her time of need.
