Bernice J. Pratt's Obituary
Decatur-Bernice J. Pratt, 81, of Decatur, went home to be with The Lord on Tuesday, December 29, 2015, in Memorial Medical Center in Springfield, IL.
Bernice was born August 26, 1934, in Evansville, IN, the daughter of Raymond and Elenora (Fortune) Coomes. She was a longtime member of Tabernacle Baptist Church for over 40 years, and she sang in the church’s Senior Choir. Bernice was a seamstress who retired from Ensign Emblems. For last two years, Bernice made little dresses that were sent to Haiti through Tabernacle Baptist Church. Bernice was actively involved with the Senior Center and TOPS. She also enjoyed gardening flowers and plants, baking, and dancing. Most of all, Bernice loved spending quality time with all her family and friends. Bernice married Ivan D. Pratt in July, 1987, and they shared 13 wonderful years together. He preceded her in death on April 27, 2001.
Bernice leaves behind her sons, Richard (Elisa) Duncan of Tallahassee, FL; Ricky (Roxie) Marshall of Decatur; daughters, Carol (Steve) Stanley of Decatur; Kathy Cooley of Decatur; Donna (Tom) Winholtz of Decatur; Debra Ellis of Decatur; one brother; eight sisters; 18 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband; parents; one brother; and a daughter, Margaret Gipson.
Services to celebrate Bernice’s life will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 4, 2016, at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be 4 p.m.-6 p.m. Sunday, January 3, 2016, at the funeral home. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park.
