Berry E. Gay's Obituary
Berry E. Gay, 87, of Springfield, formerly of Decatur, died at 5:39 p.m. Tuesday, September 20, 2011 in his home with his wife by his side.
Mr. Gay was born October 10, 1923 in St. Louis, MO, son of Berry E. and Sophia Schobinger Gay, Sr. A former member of St. Thomas Catholic Church, Berry worked as a Microbiologist for the State of Illinois until he retired in 1986. He was a US Navy Veteran of WWII serving in the South Pacific. Mr. Gay was a 20 year member of DAV Springfield Chapter 15 and graduate of Millikin University. He married Wilma Porter August 26, 1948 in Decatur.
Mr. Gay is survived by his wife: Wilma of Springfield; son, Daniel Gay of Springfield and granddaughter, C.J. Marlene Gay.
The family will receive friends Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 10 am until the service time at 11 am in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home, 2091 N. Oakland Avenue. Burial will take place in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL, with military honors provided by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials: Humane Society of Sangamon County or Lincoln Memorial Gardens.
