Betty Louise Bowman's Obituary
Betty Louise Jump Bowman, 81, of Taylorville, passed away in her home on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, from cancer. She was born 11/19/42 in Bell County, KY, the daughter of Henry and Verla Jump. Betty was married on March 8, 1963, at Jacksboro, TN, to her love for life husband of 61 years, James David Bowman.
Betty graduated with honors from both high school & college. Cumberland College, an outstanding Bible Baptist college in SE Kentucky, is where they met, dated, graduated and were married. The Bowmans moved to Illinois in 1965 where Betty started a 34-year teaching career in Christian County.
Betty had several interest or hobbies in her life. * Civil War Research; traveling to all major Civil War battlefields in the US. * Drag Racing - In 1968 Betty was named the AHRA (American Hot Rod Association) wife of the year. * Betty was an extra class ham radio operator with the federal license and call sign of WB9N. * She enjoyed bowling and was captain of her church bowling team. * In later years, RV camping with her family. * Betty was an avid student of the Bible as her college education would suggest. She looked forward each day to Bible study and prayer with JD. * Possibly the most important interest in Betty's life was helping her family any way she could.
She is survived by her husband David, two daughters, two brothers, one sister along with two adopted sisters and brother. She is also survived by two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father, Henry and Verla Jump, her oldest sister Helen, and her oldest brother Edwin.
Her place of interment will be the family gravesite in Jacksboro, TN, less that a mile from where she was married. Moran & Goebel Funeral Home in Decatur is in charge of arrangements. Condolences and memories may be shared at www.moranandgoebel.com.
I want to thank all people that made Betty's final days easier by their loving words, cards, phone calls and visits. Her final weeks were a hard struggle for her, but she thanked the Lord daily for all the blessings he had given her over her 81 years of life. She knew and believed what the Bible taught and that the loving care her husband had given would simply be turned over to the Lord when she passed.
