Betty B. Smith's Obituary
Betty B. Banks Smith, 81, of Denver, CO, passed Tuesday, March 8, 2011 in Denver, CO.
She was born March 15, 1929 in Marvell, AR, a daughter of Henry and Lucille Owen Banks. She grew up in Arkansas and left as a young woman to come to Decatur. She married Eddie Harper and later was married to Lee Smith. Betty and Lee traveled a lot because Lee worked as a Lineman putting up utility poles all over the United States. They finally settled in Denver, CO where Betty worked as a waitress for many years. She loved going to the casino’s and playing BINGO.
Betty leaves to cherish fond memories, two brothers: Nathaniel Maggie Banks of Waukegan and James L. Mary Banks of Helena, AR; sisters: Mattie Wheeler of Boston, MA and Christine Currie of Decatur; sisters-in-law: Rosie Lee Banks of Helena, AR and Yvonne Banks of Chicago; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends in Denver, CO including: Vern, Mattie, Patty and many others; special nieces: Henrietta Sug Banks, Patricia A. Currie and Carolyn K. Currie; special nephew, Milton Banks.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; sister, Jessie Spears; brothers: Rev. Walter Banks, George Banks, Tony Banks and Bill Banks.
Special thanks to Gene Mason and Harold Newman. Betty will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Farewell and Tribute Services celebrating her life will be 12 pm Wednesday, March 16, 2011 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place at a later date.
