Bettye Bondurant's Obituary
Bettye Bondurant, 71, of Decatur, died Thursday, August 4, 2011 in St. Mary’s Hospital, Decatur.
Born to Jennie and Richard Turner January 8, 1940 in Leland, MS. Her family moved to Cairo, IL, when she was 4 mo. old. She grew up there and graduated from Sumner High School. She married the late George A. Bondurant and moved to Decatur in 1965 where she was a student and graduated from Richland Community College. She united with the Church Of The Living God PGT #1 in 1966 and remained a member until her passing. She loved her church family and served many years in the choir as a pastor’s aid and volunteered for many organizations.
She leaves to cherish her sweet memory, her two sons: Donald R. Turner and Johnny Bondurant; three sisters: Jessie Lucas, Bernice Dean and Wilma Jones; twelve grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, Zechariah Turner; best friend and loving partner, Charles T. Bates, Sr., and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Preceding her in death were her mother; husband; son, Roy Turner; sister, Barbara Williams; and brother, Sammy Williams.
Farewell and Tribute Service celebrating her life will be 12 p.m. Thursday, August 11, 2011 in the Church Of The Living God PGT #1 with visitation one hour prior to the service.
