Carrie Lillian Bowens' Obituary
Carrie Lillian Bowens, 97, of Decatur, died Friday, March 30, 2012, at Imboden Creek Living Center surrounded by her family.
Carrie was born August 25, 1914, in Decatur, the daughter of William P. Bowens, Sr. and Mattie Anderson Bowens. Carrie graduated from DePaul University and Unity School of Christianity. She worked as a social worker and Minister for over 50 years in Chicago, IL, before returning to Decatur in 1981 to be closer to her family.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories, nieces: Donna K. Palmer Jackson, Angela Williams, Madeline Robert Hess, Sheila Gray, and Bernadette Bowens; nephews: John Sandra Kidd and Larry Gray and host of great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters: Bernice Gray, Mary Broughton, Madeline Richard Joy and Cathleen Banks; and brother, William P. Bowens, Jr.
Graveside funeral services will be 11am Saturday, April 7, 2012, in Greenwood Cemetery; Pastor Sam R. Owens officiating.
