Catherine Lou "Cathy" Comerford's Obituary
Decatur – Catherine Lou “Cathy” Comerford, 68, of Decatur, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 31, 2019, at St. Mary’s Hospital surrounded by her loving family.
Cathy was the fifth child of Thomas Charles “Charlie” Comerford and Dorothy (Gallagher) Comerford born September 25, 1950. Cathy attended Progress School, then Macon Resources Inc, and currently MRI. She was a proud Special Olympic participant and was a very vocal die-hard St. Louis Cardinal fan.
Cathy was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Church attendance was always the highlight of her life.
Cathy is survived by her brother, James Comerford (Mary). Sisters: Mary Jo Noonan (Larry), Colleen Keyes (Jim), Dorothy Centers (Gary, deceased) and Marguerite “Mickie” LaFata (Tom). She is also survived by loving nieces and nephews: Fr. Chris Comerford, David Comerford (Janel), Pat Comerford (Angie), Mike Noonan (Katie), Kelly Noonan, Matt Noonan, Tom Noonan (Amy), Jeff Keyes (Robin), Julie Dongoski (Rob), Brent Keyes (Joanie), Kim Peters (Marty), Erinn Sweeley (Brian), Nick LaFata (Danielle), Andy LaFata, Ben LaFata (Becky); thirteen great nieces and twelve great nephews; three great-great nieces and one great-great nephew; step-nephews: Greg Centers (Billie Jo) and Todd Centers (Teresa); and step-niece Stacia Clements. She is also survived by her Marlin Group Home family: Willa Mae, Barb, Sarah, and the wonderful staff.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 4, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; vigil prayer service at 4:30 pm. Concelebrated Mass of Christian Burial to celebrate her life will be 10 am Friday, April 5, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church; Rev. Chris Comerford, Cathy’s nephew, will be the main celebrant. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Decatur, IL.
Cathy always brought joy to those she met. It was her mission from God. She touched people in a positive way, far beyond the scope of many who have no physical challenges. Her family is so thankful for the gift she was to all of us.
