Cathleen Banks' Obituary
Cathleen Banks, 82, of Decatur, died Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at her residence surrounded by her loving daughter, Angela Williams.
Cathleen was born August 17, 1926, in Decatur, the daughter of William P. Bowens, Sr. and Mattie Anderson Bowens. She worked at BorgWarner, Inc, and most recently at Robinson Charter School in the grandparent program. Cathleen was a lifelong member of St. Peter A.M.E. Church, and a former president of the Pastor’s Aide. Cathleen had a zest for life. She enjoyed Bingo, knitting, and attending outdoor social events in Downtown Decatur and the city parks.
She leaves to cherish her fond memories: daughters: Angela Williams, Donna Kaye Palmer-Jackson: son, John Kidd Sandra: sister, Carrie L. Bowens. Grandchildren: Laquisha Freeman, Lisa Kidd, Michael Kidd Diasia, Brett Jackson, Richard Palmer, Kimberly Griggs Larry. Great grandchildren: Rakyia Palmer, Mahkyla Palmer, Taylor Daniels, Quishawn Kidd, Jyon Kidd and Chaelind Kidd, all of Decatur; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Bernice Gray, Mary Broughton, Madeline Joy Richard; and brother, William P. Bowens, Jr.
Funeral service will be 12:00 noon, Monday, January 26, 2009, with visitation one hour prior, in St. Peter A.M.E. Church, 515 South Church Street, Decatur, with Rev. Carey A. Grady officiating. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery. The family wishes to express their thanks to Dr. Ben Esparaz, the nurses and staff at Cancer Care Specialists, DMH Hospice, and special friends Emma Johnson, Dorothy Howard, and the Hotel Orlando Apartment gang for all the love and support given during her illness.
