To the whole Pilcher family: My deepest condolences for your temporary separation from Cecil. I knew Cecil and Willetta through my parents Bob and Mary Underwood, who used to live out on Martha Drive off of Bentonville Road, as you go from Decatur towards Mt. Zion. Dad worked with Cecil at Caterpillar, and my folks were connected with them through Amway for a while, too. They were at our house a number of times, and I know my Dad helped Cecil work on his cars in our garage. I helped pass tools when one of my brothers wasn't handy. (Got a gentle---and loving, of course---conk in the head a couple times for the same reason---one of my brothers wasn't handy. AND due to not passing the correct doohickey or thingamajig tool! Those machine repair guys were skilled at everything but vocabulary!) I remember your Dad's legs sticking out from one side of the car and my Dad's legs out the other.
My parents both admired and respected and loved Cecil and Willetta very much. Willetta would get to preaching, and Cecil would smile big and say, "Boy, she just keeps going!"
Cecil always shone forth the sweetest Christian spirit, was always ready with a smile and a gentle country "Howdy!", and he was a true reflection of Jesus. Pastors Don and Kevin Horath lived just a couple of blocks from us, and we knew a number of people who went to either school or church at Hillside Bethel. I kissed my Pop goodnight 2 years ago this May. My Dad was a Korean War vet as well, wounded and decorated, though he only saw just a few weeks of combat, and the rest of the time was in Japan. He would have been 90 on Jan. 29, 2022. We had a "COVID" funeral service for him at Morans as well (May 2020), with only 10 people allowed at the service. I preached his homegoing message, and I can tell you that the only part of it that was "easy" was knowing that my Dad---and now your Dad---is having a grand old time with the saints around the Throne and in the loving arms of Jesus, our wonderful Lord and Savior. And if I know Don and Kevin, they preached a Gospel-centered, Jesus-centered message of love and hope and conviction. Our saved loved ones are now Home safe, never to hurt any more, or grow old, or sin, or suffer loss. Cecil is reunited with Willetta, and probably gave a big old hug and a "Howdy, Bob!" to my Dad, and to so many other people Cecil knew in the faith---many of whom, no doubt, the Lord reached through Cecil and Willetta's various ministries through the years. My wife Kara and I and my mom Mary Underwood and our family just want to say how sorry we are for your loss. But knowing it to only be temporary, if you know Christ as your Savior, you will see Cecil again soon. All our Love in Christ, Matt Underwood (formerly of Decatur & Long Creek / Mt. Zion, now of Mt. Washington, KY) [email protected]
