Charles Eugene Powless' Obituary
Charles Eugene Powless, age 47 of Blue Mound departed this life at 1:24 am September 27, 2003 in his home.
Funeral Service celebrating his life will be 7 pm Tuesday September 30, 2003 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, with Rev. Kim Dancey officiating, where visitation will be from 5 – 7 pm Tuesday in the funeral home. Burial will be 10 am Wednesday October 1, 2003 in Camp Butler National Cemetery, where military rites will be conducted by the Macon Count Honor Guard. Charles was born July 13, 1956 in Clinton, Illinois the son of Berle Gene and Edna Lois Cole Powless. He was a member of the VFW Post # 4168 in Clinton. He worked in the construction field for more than 20 years. He served his country for more than 20 years in the United States Navy enlisting in July 1974, retiring in July 1995, during his naval career, having served both at sea and ashore, he consistently demonstrated the highest degree of competency and devotion to duty. He earned four Navy Achievement Medals, two Good Conduct Awards as well as the Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Navy Unit Commendation, Navy ”E” Ribbon, Navy Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, South West Asia Service Medal, Humanitarian Service Medal and the Sea Service Deployment Ribbon. He married Kathie Scarberry in San Diego, California on September 15, 1987, she survives.
Also surviving is his mother Edna L. Davis and step father William of Stonington; sons, Charles Powless and wife Maxine of Great Lakes, Illinois, Dale Charles Powless of Blue Mound; daughter, Amanda Lynn Deridder and husband Neal of Georgia; brothers, Berle Gene Powless and wife Faith of Saint Louis, Missouri, Michael Davis and wife Diane of Mountain View, Missouri; sisters, Margaret Coy and husband Kenneth of Clinton, Illinois, Jennifer Daivs of Granite City, Illinois, Vicki Myers and husband Darrell of Mountain View, Missouri, grandchildren; Aaron, Charlie and Matese, Special friends; JJ and Tony Vogt of San Diego, California, Denis and Debi Watson of Decatur, Illinois.
Charles was preceded in death by his father, two brothers; Dale Powless and Tony Davis, sister; Robin Bauer.
