Charles Campbell Smith's Obituary
Charles Campbell Smith, 73, of Argenta formerly of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2017 in his home with his family by his side.
Charles was born September 20, 1943 in Decatur, Illinois the son of Charles Campbell and Mary Elizabeth (Vorhes) Smith Jr. He proudly served his country in the Army National Guard. Charles was a contractor for many years and enjoyed gardening, planting many trees, flowers, and shrubs throughout his lifetime. He married Trudy Hazel September 2, 1972 in Decatur.
Charles is survived by his wife Trudy of Argenta, son Brian (Melinda) Smith of St. Louis, Missouri, daughter Rae (Ted) Stoner of Argenta, sisters Mary Meads of Lakeland, Florida and Rose Kennedy of Elgin, Illinois, and grandchildren Christian, Austin, Jaxton, Nathan, and Jacob.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents and brother George Smith.
The family would like to give thanks to the staff at DMH Home Healthcare and Hospice, special Nurse Lily, and the staff at Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois for all of their loving care.
Services to celebrate Charles’ life will be 11:00 AM Friday, May 12, 2017 in Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 AM prior to the services. Burial will follow at Friends Creek Cemetery in Argenta. Memorials are suggested to the IL Audubon Society or to a charity of the donor’s choice.
