Charlie Taylor's Obituary
Charlie Taylor passed away June 1, 2013 at home with his family.
Charlie was born October 26, 1917, in Haywood County, Tennessee to George and Della Dotson-Taylor. He is the youngest of 18 children. He became a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church in Brownsville, Tennessee at an early age. He married Bertha Owens on September 28, 1940. He moved his family to Decatur, Illinois in 1950. Two days after arriving in Decatur he began working for Chambers Bering and Quinlan Foundry where he worked for 29 years. He retired in 1979. He was a hardworking man who often worked multiple part-time jobs in addition to his full-time position.
He is the father of four daughters (Charlie's Angels) and two sons: Evelyn (George) Strong, Alma (Arthur) Young, Bertha Lee (William) Gibbs, and Edna Taylor, Otis (Brenda) Carter and Hubert Carter. He was guardian to Charlie Frank Hayes and Frank Owens.
He was a long time member of New Salem Baptist Church for over 60 years. He served as a Trustee and worked with the Laymen until his health failed him. He was also a member of John C. Ellis Masonic Lodge #17 since 1954.
He has 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and 13 great- great grandchildren along with a host of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, four sons, one grandson and 17 brothers and sisters.
Home going Services will be Saturday, June 8, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. at New Salem Baptist Church located at 1415 N. Edward St., Decatur, IL. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 PM Friday at the church with Masonic Rites beginning at 7:30 PM, and from 10:00- 11:00 AM on Saturday. Burial will be in Macon County Memorial Park
