Christine Owens' Obituary
Christine Owens, 73, transitioned from this world on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Born on February 3, 1951, to Percy and Mattiel Meeks in Canton, MS, she was the seventh of twelve children. Christine moved to Decatur, IL, the day after graduating high school in 1969. Having worked in the cotton fields of Mississippi from the age of five, she was no stranger to hard work. Christine was a dedicated employee of Caterpillar, Inc., for 35 years, even returning after 10 years to serve as an assembly trainer for another two years before retiring once again.
She married the love of her life, Orville Gregory Owens Sr., on April 18, 1981. From their union, they were blessed with two children, Christina Marie and Orville Gregory Owens Jr. Christine was a phenomenal mother and a loving bonus mom to Orlando and Boneisa Owens. She was a beloved aunt to a host of nieces and nephews, but her most cherished role was that of Nana to her five grandchildren: Piersten, Preslley, Lennox, Jett, and Sullivan Owens.
Christine was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ the Living God, pastored by Sam R. Owens. She had a heart of gold and was always ready to help anyone in need. She loved to dance and enjoyed impersonating her favorite artist, Patti LaBelle.
She was preceded in death by her parents Mattiel and Percy Meeks, husband Orville G. Owens Sr., and siblings, Sammie Meeks, Percy Lee Meeks Jr., Dorothy Edwards, and Delores Smalls.
She leaves behind her children: Christina Owens (Kalan Robinson) and Orville G. Owens Jr. (Danielle Carter); her grandchildren; and her siblings: Sherley Tyus, Ruthie Singleton, Elease Meeks, Evon Robinson, Ada Owens, Rudolph (Jerdean) Meeks, and Earl Lee Meeks.
Service will be held at 12pm Saturday January 4, 2025, at The Church of Jesus Christ the Living God located at 4240 E. William Street Rd. Decatur, IL 62521 Remembrances may be shared at www.moranandgoebel.com
