Christopher B. Calmes' Obituary
Christopher “Chris” Bailie Calmes, 36, of Forsyth, Illinois passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, April 27, 2019. Chris was born June 18, 1982 in Decatur, Illinois, and was the first child of Mark and Jane Calmes. Growing up, Chris was active in sports and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He graduated from Southern Illinois University at Carbondale in December 2004, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, concentrating in Marketing and Communications. While at SIU, he was active in fraternity life and a leader in the Inter-Fraternity Council. The majority of his work career was spent in procurement and sales in the agricultural industry. Chris loved life and could always light up a room with his infectious smile and charming attitude. He loved his nieces, who absolutely adored him as well.
Chris is survived by his father Mark Calmes, brother Andy Calmes (Lisa), and his sisters Nikki Fehr (Adam) and Kim Davis (Rex). He is also survived by his nieces: Gracie and Sadie Calmes, Tatum Fehr, and Adaline Davis. Chris was preceeded in death by his mother, Jane Calmes.
A private family inurnment service and a Celebration of Life for family and friends will be held at a later date. Chris was an active and supportive member of Jane’s Angels, the family Walk to Defeat ALS team, that fundraises in honor of his mother, who battled ALS. Chris was also a supporter of a new ALS scholarship fund, which was created to honor his mother.
