Christopher H. Johns Sr.'s Obituary
Decatur – Christopher Hill “Chris” Johns Sr, 79, of Decatur, passed away Monday, September 9, 2024, at home with the light of his life, Mary Alice (Doolin) Johns by his side.
Chris was born October 17, 1944, in Decatur, IL, the son of George P. and Betsy M. (Morton) Johns. A graduate of MacArthur High School and U.S. Army Veteran, Chris was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and The Country Club of Decatur where he was a past President of the Board. Chris was also a past member of Decatur Jaycee’s, Kiwanis, Power Squadron, Catholic Charities Board and United Way Board, and Decatur Medical-Dental Credit Union Board.
Chris was the owner/operator of Pride Cleaners and Launderers and Jake’s Video Gaming. He was a proud Republican and Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. Chris married Mary Alice Doolin on October 12, 1968, in Decatur, IL at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church.
Surviving is his wife, Mary Alice of Decatur; children: Catherine (Blake) Mansur of Decatur, Christopher Hill (Pamela) Johns Jr of IN, and George Jacob (Cara) Johns Sr of Decatur; grandchildren: Anthony, Travis, Betsy, Christopher III, George Jr, and Maura; great grandchildren: Maddie, Peyton, and Almy; brothers: George Peter “Pete” (Anne) Johns Jr of Decatur, and Thomas Morton (Nancy) Johns of NC; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be from 3:30pm to 7pm, Thursday, September 12, 2024, at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 3:15pm. Funeral Mass will be 10am, Friday, September 13, 2024, at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Mt. Gilead Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Family Catholic Church.
