Claire Reid's Obituary
Claire Frances Reid, 79, resident of Liberty Village of Clinton and formerly of Decatur, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2019 at the home. She was born March 28, 1940 in Brooklyn, New York, the daughter of Frederick and Josephine Mahr Bessau. She married Dudley S. Reid on October 21, 1972 in New Hampshire. He preceded her in death on December 9, 1993.
Claire had a strong faith in God, attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Decatur for many years. She also loved bowling, waitressing at El Dorado Bowl in Decatur for more than 20 years. More importantly, she loved being “nana,” and never missed a chance to show support for her grandchildren. Claire was known as a good dancer, and enjoyed cheering on the Brooklyn Dodgers and later on, the New York Mets and Chicago Cubs.
She is survived by five children, Lorraine (Steve) Laney of New Orleans, Louisiana; Bonnie (David) Hord of Maryville, Indiana; Jeffrey (Debbie) Orr of Decatur; Carl (Brooke) Reid of Bloomington; and Paul (Angela) Reid of Clinton, 19 grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Betty Ann (Jake) Gerard of Rockford; and Josephine Gimberling of Delaware.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by two sons, Kenny and Russell Orr; four grandchildren, six sisters, and a brother.
A funeral mass will be held at noon on Thursday, April 11, 2019 at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. Visitation will be held two hours prior to the mass at the church. Following services, cremation rites will be accorded. Private burial of her ashes will take place at a later date at Graceland Cemetery in Decatur.
