Decatur- Clarence E. Hedges, 83, of Decatur, passed away Tuesday, February 03, 2015 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Services to celebrate Clarence’s life will be 11 a.m. Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Moran & Goebel Funeral Home, 2801 N. Monroe St. Decatur, IL. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the donor’s choice. The family requests casual attire.
Clarence was born on February 6, 1931 in Decatur, the son of Clarence E. Hedges and Lorine (Rhodes) Hedges. He was married to Ruth (Robb) Hedges on September 2, 1950. He worked for A.E. Staley Manufacturing Company, and retired with twenty-five years of service. He also worked at Caterpillar and retired with twenty-eight years of service. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan, enjoyed wood working, and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his son, Steven (Donna) Hedges of Decatur; daughter, Kathy (Tom Sanders) Daugherty of Peoria, Karen (Randy) Doty of Decatur, Kay Godsey of Decatur; brother, Girard (Jan) Durbin of Decatur; sister, Linda (Lyle) Culberson of Woodstock, GA; fourteen grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruth, parents, brother Herb Hedges, and granddaughter Jeni Hedges.
The family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Fairhavens, especially to Missy and Megan, the staff of DMH, physicians, and the staff of DMH hospice.
“We will always remember Dad by his whistle”, and to his kids, “What the H*** were you thinking”!
