Connie Lee Werkman's Obituary
Connie Lee Werkman, 74, of Decatur passed away peacefully on February 24 2024 at her longtime residence in Decatur, Illinois. Connie was welcomed into heaven this day by two fathers - our Lord and her daddy, Wilfred Gregg.
Connie was born December 9, 1949 to Lillie Gregg and Wilfred Gregg of Hammond, Illinois. Connie was a graduate of Cerro Gordo high school and later went on to attend art school in Florida. Connie spent many years as the director of advertising for K's Merchandise in Decatur, where she directed commercials, created ads, and designed their product catalogs. Connie rounded out her professional career most recently as a registration specialist for Raycraft & Jones medical office in Decatur. Through every stage of her life, Connie could be found traveling throughout the state of Illinois with her mother, Lillie, to various art shows, where they created not only art but lasting memories together.
Connie is survived by her mother Lillie Gregg, son Matthew(Rachel) Werkman, siblings Teri Peterson, Jerry(Ellen) Gregg, Kevin (Lisa) Gregg, Darin (Eileen) Gregg, nieces Tracy Peterson, Ellie Gregg, Mason Gregg and nephews Rob Peterson, Jeff (Bri) Gregg, Jared(Lori) Gregg, Dylan Gregg, Elijah Gregg and grandchildren Glen Weaver, Alex Weaver, William Cutright-Werkman, and Harper Werkman. She is preceded in death by her father, Wilfred Gregg.
Connie was an accomplished and well-known artist in her community commissioning artwork of various mediums. Connie instilled in her grandchildren from an early age a love of art and the assurance that there is no wrong way to create if it's from your heart and you don't think about it too much. Connie was an avid Illini fan, a chocolate lover and a QVC shopper. She was selfless in her love of others and was her grandchildren's go-to for a good listener, advice giver, and homework helper. The loss we feel by her absence is insurmountable but pales in comparison to the legacy, traditions, memories and laughter we have gained along the way.
PS- Have we told you today? Because we do.
A visitation will be held at Moran and Goebel Funeral Home on Friday March 1 2024 from 4-6PM. A private celebration of life for the family will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be directed to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
