D. W. "Bill" Sullivan's Obituary
Decatur – D. W. “Bill” Sullivan, 90, of Decatur, formerly of Assumption, passed away Wednesday, May 10, 2017 in Decatur Memorial Hospital.
Bill was born in June 16, 1926 in Decatur, IL, the son of Donald L. and Mary Helen (Everly) Sullivan. A U.S. Marine veteran of WWII, Bill served his country in the southern Pacific where he earned 3 battle stars. He then went to the Philippines and earned a battle star, Presidential Citation from U.S. President & Philippines President. Bill retired from Wagner Casting’s December 12, 1985. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Assumption and had been attending Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Decatur. He was also a member of Very Rev Jeremiah J. Murphy Assembly #211, K of C Council 1026, V.F.W. 6577 in Assumption, past Scout Master of Troop 134, past member of Assumption Honor Guard, and past trustee of St. Mary’s Church, Assumption. Bill married Eleanor Bower on April 24, 1948 in Pana, IL, and she preceded him in death May 1, 2016.
Bill is survived by his children: Donald W. (Celeste) Sullivan, Jr., of Muscatine, IA, Robert B. (Kristina) Sullivan of Sheboygan Falls, WI, Charles L. Sullivan of Cleveland, OH, and Greg Sullivan of Decatur. He is also survived by five grandchildren, nine great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Loretta) Sullivan of Decatur; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Eleanor, parents, sister, Marilyn Jones.
Visitation will be Sunday, May 14, 2017 from 4 to 7 pm at the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home; vigil prayer service will be at 3:30 pm. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am Monday, May 15, 2017 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Assumption, IL, Rev. Donald Wolford, celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Assumption, IL. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Assumption V.F.W. Post #6577 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
