Dale E. Mast's Obituary
Dale E. Mast, 67, a lifelong resident of Decatur, passed away in his home with his family at his side at 6:33 pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2006. The Lord called him home following complications after his two year battle with kidney cancer.
The family asks you to join them in a celebration of his life which will begin with a visitation from 4:30 to 6:30 pm on Fri. June 2, 2006 in the Moran & Goebel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10 am Sat. June 3, 2006 in the funeral home. Burial will follow at Macon County Memorial Park.
Dale was born on April 1, 1939 in Decatur, the son of William and Mina Holman Mast. He worked as a mechanic for the Norfolk & Southern Railroad for 30 years before he retired in 1985. Dale was a member of the Decatur Area Arts Council, Decatur Magic Club, treasurer and member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians where he served as territorial representative of the State of Illinois in 1979-1980 and again in 1982-1983. He was quite a local celebrity as his magic shows were often featured in the local newspapers. Dale married Barbara J. Church on March 5, 1963 in Decatur. As a teenager in the 1950's, he was drawn to muscle cars, as luck would have it, his wife shared his lifelong love of automobiles. As they traveled the car show circuits, they made friends wherever they went and "The Britt", the black MGB became very well known.
Surviving is his loving and devoted wife of 43 years, Barbara of Decatur. He also leaves behind two daughters: Mona Mast of Decatur and Paula husband, Trent Hollingsead of Mt. Zion; sisters: Hallie Monke of Springfield and Evelyn Ogden of Waterloo, IA; grandchildren: Chase and Mason Hollingsead.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Clifford and sister, Dorothy Hagan.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the Doctor's, Nurses, research team and staff at the Cancer Care Specialists of Central Illinois. A special recognition for compassionate care is given to Dr. James L. Wade. Finally, a very special thank you bears mentioning to all the Nurses of Decatur Memorial Hospital Hospice for their compassion shown to Dale over the past couple of months.
