Darrell Dowling's Obituary
Darrell Dowling, 84, of Decatur, passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at St. Mary’s Hospital.
He was born in Decatur on July 26, 1940, to the late Walter Dowling and June Gunter Dowling. He made his living as a welder at both ADM and Mechanical.
Darrell was a member of Central Baptist Church, and served as a deacon in several Baptist churches throughout his life. He taught Sunday School for many years, as well as leading the Brotherhood men’s fellowship. He loved his family and enjoyed spending all the time with them he could. He also loved thrift shopping, classic cars, and a good book.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by: one brother, Richard Dowling; one sister, Linda Mahr; and one grandson, Karson Dowling.
Those left to cherish his memory include: his wife of 55 years, Gladna Maynard Dowling; one son, Darin Dowling; three brothers, Bob Dowling, Mark Dowling, and Hal Dowling; four sisters, Sharon Franklin, Mary Hadden, Sue Eson, and Betty Bottles; as well as three grandchildren and a large church family.
The family of Darrell Dowling will receive friends from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm on Monday, October 21, 2024, in the Graceland/Fairlawn Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral will begin promptly at 1:00 pm, with burial to follow immediately after at Boiling Springs Cemetery. Services will be officiated by Pastor Dave Brown.
