David E. Conley's Obituary
David Eugene Conley of Decatur, Illinois passed this life on July 22nd, 2019.
David was born on February 24, 1941, the son of Frank and Eulah Burnett (VanDyke) Conley. He worked at A.E. Staley and Decatur Public Transit System. He attended Decatur Public Schools and graduated from Sangamon State University with a B.A. Degree in Business Administration.
He was a long standing faithful member of Antioch M.B. Church. He was also a past member of the Shriners, Elk’s, NAACP, Decatur Respect, a 32nd Degree Mason, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #730. He served in the U.S. Navy as a flight crew member assigned to the VP-26 patrol squadron. In his spare time he enjoyed playing cards, traveling, watching the stock market, watching sports, and spending time with family and friends.
David was blessed with one daughter, Deborah Lynn Conley.
He leaves to mourn his passing and to cherish his precious memories, his daughter: Deborah Conley of Richton Park, IL; two granddaughters: Kayla and Makiya Bogan; his brother: Frank (Mary Helen) Conley of Perris, CA; two nephews: Dr. Frank Conley, Jr. of Grenada Hills, CA and Troy Marshall of Atlanta, Georgia; four nieces: Tammy Conley of Indianapolis, IN, Melissa (Kurt McGinnis) O’Neal of Decatur, IL, Marlene (Percy) Beeler of Springfield, IL, and Kathleen Bradford of Decatur, IL ;Special friends: Thomas Jelks, U.L. Newbon, Alberta Readye-his godmother, Betty Evans, and Esther Cobb, his caregiver ;Special cousin: Angie Diggs, and a host of other relatives and friends.
David was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers: Marion and Kermit Conley, two sisters: Carolyn Conley and Mary (Bradford) Conley, a niece: Sharri Newbon, and one sister-in-law: Jean Conley.
Homegoing services will be at 11:00 am on Saturday August 3, 2019 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, with Rev. C.D. Stuart officiating, visitation will be from 10:11 am at the church. Burial will follow in Graceland Cemetery with full military rites performed by the Macon County Honor Guard. Memorials may be left to his family.
