David Michael Coventry's Obituary
David M. Coventry, 83, passed away peacefully at home on March 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family that meant everything to him.
David was born on January 19, 1943, in Decatur, IL, the son of Elmer K. Coventry and Sophia Mary (Carroll) Coventry. A graduate of St. Teresa High School and Millikin University. In his thirty-year career at Taylor Pharmaceuticals, he rose to hold the title of Vice President of Quality Control.
Family was the center of his life, and words can hardly express how deeply he loved them. Each person with whom he built a special relationship, knew they were valued and treasured. His final wish was simply to spend time together with those he loved most.
He is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife, Cheryl (Kershner); his daughter Meridith and her husband Troy Layne; his cherished grandchildren, Lilah and Muira, and son Michael’s daughter Stella; his sister Carole (Coventry) Doyle and brother Mark (Kathy) Coventry. He will be missed by over 30 nieces and nephews, and many many great and great great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Michael; his parents; sisters, Mary Francis (Walker) and Joan (Snead); brothers, John “Jack” and Elmer K.”Pat”.
Born into a large Catholic family with six brothers and sisters, he carried the strong sense of family and togetherness from his childhood throughout his life. Over the years he became the true patriarch of a growing family, creating memories that will continue for generations.
He found great joy in life’s simple pleasures and gathering with loved ones. Annual Thanksgiving and Christmas celebrations were among his favorite times of the year, bringing everyone together in laughter, stories, and warmth. At any family gathering, he could almost always be found with his bowl of popcorn in hand, enjoying the moment and the company around him.
Though he will be deeply missed, his family will forever carry forward the love, traditions, and togetherness he created. His greatest legacy lives on in the family he cherished so deeply.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mary (Covey) Coventry affectionately known as “sister” Mary for her friendship and medical care.
A visitation will be held at St. Patrick Church in Decatur, IL on Monday, March 23, 2026, at 10 a.m. with a Funeral Mass at 11 a.m. Burial in Calvary Cemetery will follow.
