David Ford's Obituary
David Ford, 79, departed this life with his son Bryan by his side, on November 13, 2023, at Decatur Memorial Hospital, Decatur, Illinois. Born in Hillsboro, Illinois, to Hugh and Ida Hitt Ford, he was the youngest of three children.
David attended Lanphier High School in Springfield, Illinois where he was a standout baseball player and later enlisted in the United States Army. While in the army, he quickly advanced and became a sergeant. He was a paratrooper who served in the elite, 82nd Airborne Infantry Division and was a military policeman. His service decorations, medals, badges, commendations, citations and campaign ribbons awarded or authorized include: National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal and Sharpshooter (Rifle). Following an honorable discharge, he continued to work manufacturing jobs until he retired.
David was known by various names he embraced including but not limited to: Mr. Ford, Bro. Ford, Dad, Grandpa, Pops, Uncle David, Uncle Shay, Sgt. Ford, Charlie Brown and Jonesel. David was a stern individual who believed, embodied and taught structure to his family. He enjoyed fellowshipping at church, photography, watching sporting events and cowboy shows and, took extreme pride in his yardwork.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Hugh and Ida Ford and, sisters, Barbara J. Day and Hughetta C. Hill.
David leaves to cherish his memories to his four children, five grandsons and one great-grandson. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, many great and great great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and other individuals who played a special role in his life.
