David Dwight Wilhour's Obituary
David Dwight Wilhour was born in Taylorville, IL on April 25, 1940 the son of Harry and Miriam (McNeeley) Wilhour. David passed in Decatur, IL on Friday December 27, 2024.
David grew up in the Buckeye Community and was active in 4H, MYF and FFA. He started school in the The Buckeye one room school house that is now located on the grounds at the Christian County Historical Society. He is the proud graduate of Taylorville High School, Class of 1958.
David was hired at Caterpillar as a floor sweeper in 1959. He worked in personnel services from 1974 to 1996. He then was Community Affairs Manager from 1997to 2002. David miraculously remembered the name of every person he encountered out in the community. He retired after 43 years of dedicated service to Caterpillar.
David was involved in the community and served on a number of boards and committees that all affected quality of life. He was on the Earthmover Credit Union board for 50 years.
David married Sharon Funk from Mt. Auburn. They had one daughter, Suzanne. He later divorced Sharon and married Jackie (Ramsey) Curry on June 6, 1999.
Survivors include his wife, Jackie; daughter, Suzanne, of Beaverton, Oregon; Grandchildren Ian and Lily of Corvallis, OR; stepson, David Curry, wife, Laura; step grandchildren Taylor and Austin Curry, all of Highlands Ranch, CO; brother John Withour of Owaneco, IL; sister in-law Beverly (Ramsey) Offer and husband, Kenny Offer of Decatur. He is also survived by many wonderful nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, brother Paul Wilhour and wife, Maggie Wilhour as well as sister-in-law Shirley Wilhour.
David was very proud of his years of service at Caterpillar. He loved a beautiful lawn and a clean car. Early in their marriage David and Jackie did a lot of traveling out west. His stepson told him he didn't know which car wash location to send a Fathers Day card.
Cremation rites have been accorded and graveside service will take place at Buckeye Cemetery Owaneco, IL at a later date. Memorials can be made to the Salvation Army, 229 W. Main St., Decatur, IL or Faith Baptist Church 875 W. Grove Rd., Decatur, IL
